Job Title: School Counselor

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Counselor to join our team at Gaston County Schools. As a School Counselor, you will play a vital role in promoting student success, providing preventive services, and responding to identified student needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students.
  • Use appropriate assessment and diagnostic procedures to determine and structure individual and group counseling services.
  • Follow up individual and group counseling to monitor student progress and implement the SSMT 504 Process.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and administrators to understand and respond to the developmental levels of students.
  • Present instructional/informational programs to groups of students, parents, and teachers.
  • Interpret achievement and aptitude test data to assist staff with the curriculum.
  • Share appropriate information about students with school and community agencies.
  • Assist with the coordination of student services in the school.
  • Interpret testing results and other student data accurately.
  • Conduct non-standardized tests and inventories according to published practices and professional standards.
  • Follow laws, policies, and procedures that govern school programs.
  • Adhere to ethical standards of the counseling profession.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Carry out other school duties as assigned by the administration.
Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in School Counseling or licensure progress in School Counseling from a Regionally Accredited College/University.
  • Licensed in 00005 or eligible for a license.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to physically perform basic life operational functions, including stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to perform light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to possess visual acuity to prepare data, work with records processes, and do extensive reading and research.
