Healthcare Nutrition Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Healthcare Nutrition Specialist to join our team at the Mount Sinai Health System. This is a per diem opportunity that requires a registered dietitian (RD) with experience in providing quality nutrition care and education to patients and family members.
About the JobThis role will involve assessing the nutritional status of patients, recommending appropriate nutrition therapy, and providing nutrition counseling as indicated. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to work effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
Responsibilities- Evaluate the nutritional status of patients by reviewing pertinent information from electronic medical records and collaborating with the healthcare team.
- Apply knowledge of nutrition screening and assessment to determine specific patient populations' nutritional needs, conducting nutrition-focused physical exams, and maintaining working knowledge of malnutrition diagnostic criteria and treatment.
- Document pertinent findings in medical records as per policy, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Provide quality nutrition counseling to patients and family members, adapting to their individual needs and preferences.
- Evaluate nutrition care plans for effectiveness and recommend changes as needed, utilizing professional judgment to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, communicating effectively with healthcare team members and contributing to collaborative decision-making.
- Assist with discharge planning, ensuring a smooth transition of care for patients.
- Precept dietetic interns, instructing them on competencies required to complete their assigned rotation and providing feedback for incorporation into student evaluations.
- Participate in departmental projects, including providing education via nutrition-related in-services, interdepartmental nutrition programs, lectures, and community-focused programs.
- Registered Dietitian (RD) certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is required; New York State CDN preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Data entry and computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are essential.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills are necessary for success in this role.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required for effective collaboration with healthcare teams.
The estimated salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 per year, based on location and experience.
