About This Role

Atrium Health is seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Imaging Specialist to join our team in the Breast Care Center. As a key member of our radiology team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic imaging services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, and submission for interpretation of mammographic radiographic images.
  • Provide patient care and education while in the Breast Care Center.
  • Demonstrate competency in positioning of all Breast Imaging procedures as prescribed by departmental policy.
  • Communicate with patients to explain procedures, obtain clinical history, and address any questions or concerns.
  • Position patients and formulate appropriate techniques to demonstrate breast anatomy based on accepted radiographic principles.
  • Judge the diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
  • Provide radiologists with patient history using appropriate forms.
  • Review all mammogram requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided.
  • Take verbal orders from providers as needed and enter them appropriately in the RIS system.
  • Prepare and maintain records in accordance with various regulatory agencies.
  • Enter patient and study information into the radiology information system and document billing codes of procedures performed.
  • Assist and consult with radiologists, work independently outside the department, and assist with biopsy and/or marking procedures performed at the Breast Center.
  • Observe patients during radiologic exams for changes in status and make appropriate interventions or contact primary caregivers for instruction.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and mentoring for other personnel assigned to the area.
  • Identify and correct problems as appropriate and report critical occurrences to the next level of authority.
  • Utilize supplies and equipment in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Maintain all required continuing education and applicable certifications for the modality.
