We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Lead Educator in our Alternative Teacher Certification Program at Houston Community College. This role is essential in upholding our commitment to academic excellence, student engagement, and community involvement.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The successful candidate will bring expertise and insight to enhance our educational offerings. This position involves designing courses that align with established higher education standards, employing diverse teaching methodologies, and fostering an environment that promotes student success. The responsibilities of the Lead Educator encompass instructional delivery, academic mentorship, professional growth, and active participation in community service initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  1. Instructional Delivery:
    • Exhibit proficiency and knowledge in the subject area;
    • Continuously enhance instructional quality through innovative teaching strategies;
    • Create and submit comprehensive syllabi for each course in accordance with departmental guidelines;
    • Design and implement varied teaching methods and resources that cater to diverse student backgrounds and learning preferences;
    • Assess student performance to track progress towards course objectives and provide timely feedback;
    • Maintain accurate records of student performance and submit required documentation promptly;
    • Deliver courses at various times and locations to meet institutional needs;
    • Demonstrate a commitment to integrating technology into the learning environment.
  2. Academic Mentorship:
    • Foster professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the broader community;
    • Ensure accessibility to students through scheduled office hours and electronic communication;
  3. Professional Development:
    • Set annual professional growth objectives in collaboration with department leadership;
    • Stay informed about advancements in the field;
    • Adopt and utilize innovative technologies that enhance student learning;
    • Engage in self-evaluation and contribute to departmental assessment processes.
  4. Community Engagement:
    • Participate in institutional events and activities, including orientation and graduation;
    • Contribute to departmental meetings and program discussions;
    • Adhere to institutional policies and procedures;
    • Engage in activities that promote the mission of Houston Community College;
    • Assist in maintaining program accreditation standards;
    • Collaborate in the development of departmental goals and budget priorities;
    • Review and enhance program curricula to ensure compliance with educational standards.
QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

EDUCATION

A Master's degree or higher is required.

Texas Teacher Certification and Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) Certificate are mandatory.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of five (5) years of exemplary teaching experience is required.
