Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Payroll Technician to join our team at Hampton Roads Transit. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing payroll, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

- Process payroll from input of hours through the balance of accounts against the general ledger
- Prepare payroll related reports
- Input of timesheets for employees; prepares bi-weekly payroll
- Calculates gross pay
- Prints payroll checks
- Sends direct deposits to clearing house
- Prepares payroll reports
- Pays bi-weekly and monthly bills (child support, garnishments, etc.)
- Pays taxes, bonds, credit union, pension, insurance
- Create and maintain accounting codes within PeopleSoft HCM
- Reconciles payroll liability accounts
- Reviews and approves payroll data for accuracy and completeness
- Balances payroll accounts with the General Ledger

Requirements

- Associate's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field
- Two years of experience in payroll, accounting or closely related work
- Possess a valid Driver's License
- Acquire a Virginia Driver's License within 60 days after the date of hire

Preferred Qualifications

- Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications associated with performance of assigned work
- Basic problem solving skills associated with software applications used
- Knowledge of safety procedures and policies
