Position Overview:
The University of the District of Columbia is seeking a dedicated individual to serve as a Financial Aid Counselor. This role is integral to the Office of Financial Aid within the Division of Student Development and Success (SDS).

Key Responsibilities:
1. **Eligibility Assessment:**
Evaluate and interpret financial data submitted by applicants to ascertain their eligibility for financial assistance, adhering to federal, state, and institutional guidelines.

2. **Counseling and Support:**
Maintain an assigned caseload, providing guidance to students regarding their financial needs and eligibility for various federal student aid programs.

3. **Regulatory Compliance:**
Stay informed about current regulations affecting student financial aid programs and ensure compliance in all operations.

4. **Professional Judgment:**
Assist in processing requests for Professional Judgment, determining eligibility based on unique circumstances, and making necessary adjustments to financial aid packages.

5. **Program Administration:**
Administer programs such as the Federal Work Study and institutional scholarships, including the coordination of application processes and liaising with relevant stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of experience in a financial aid office.
- Proficiency in federal and state financial aid regulations and the ability to navigate financial aid systems.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with financial aid software and systems, particularly Banner.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
