Caregiver Assistant

Job Summary
The Personal Support Specialist (PSS) provides exceptional client service by assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) outlined in the client service plan. This role requires following infection control procedures, using universal precautions, and proper body mechanics to ensure safety. The PSS will typically visit multiple clients during the work shift and be responsible for transportation.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist clients with personal care needs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, nail, hair, skin, and foot care
• Assist clients with elimination needs, such as assistance to and from the bathroom or commode, bedpan or urinal, catheter, ostomy, and incontinent care
• Assist clients with ambulating needs, assistive devices, bed mobility, bed and chair transfers, Hoyer lift, gait belt, and ROM, locomotion under professional supervision
• Transport clients when authorized
• Assist clients with nutritional needs, including meal planning and preparation, shopping, assisting or prompting with feeding
• Assist clients with household duties by practicing good housekeeping techniques, such as kitchen and bathroom cleanup, dusting, vacuuming, laundry, and when authorized, shopping and running errands
• Observe, report, and document any changes in the client's physical or mental status, such as eating, sleeping, and general behavior
• Promote a safe and clean environment
• Report any identified safety hazards found in the home
Requirements
• Proof of vehicle insurance at $50K/$100K and a valid Maine driver's license are required
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Proof of completion of the tenth grade is required; high school diploma or equivalent is preferred
• Entry-level computer experience and must have access to email/internet
• PSS certification (will be trained at no cost)
