We are seeking an experienced Computer Vision Research Scientist to join our team at Canon U.S.A., Inc. in Irvine, CA. As a key member of our research and development team, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge computer vision technologies and applications.

This is a full-time position with a hybrid work schedule that includes office days on Monday and Wednesday, and the option to work from home the remainder of the week. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer science, mathematics, or a related field, with a proven track record of innovation and expertise in areas such as computer vision, machine learning, and software development. Experience working with libraries like OpenCV, keras/tensorflow, and pyTorch is highly desired. About the Role:

  • You will initiate and execute applied research projects focused on developing novel computer vision algorithms and systems.
  • You will investigate the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products, and problems, with a focus on creating models for software solutions.
  • You will maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories in computer vision and related fields.
  • You may act as a spokesperson for corporate research and development, advising management on research initiatives and their impact.
  • You will interface with various departments, serving as an internal consultant to identify opportunities for collaboration and growth.
  • You will contribute to Canon's intellectual property portfolio by participating in the development of patent applications.

About You:

  • Education Required: M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience Required: Minimum 5 years of experience in scientific research and development.
  • Desired Skills: Strong mathematical background, experience with C/C++ and/or Python, and familiarity with libraries like OpenCV, keras/tensorflow, and pyTorch.
