Job Overview

Counter Culture Coffee is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to oversee our accounting department. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, as well as providing strategic financial guidance to support the company's growth and success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage daily operations of the accounting department, including financial close, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, cash receipts, and the general ledger.
  • Prepare all monthly, quarterly, and annual reports required by management and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to oversee the payroll process and ensure compliance with all employment agencies.
  • Work with external accounting and compliance groups to comply with local, state, and federal government reporting, including sales and use tax, property tax, and income tax filings.
  • Oversee and manage company insurance programs.
  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate annual financial audit process with external auditors.
  • Manage budget vs actual discussion with the company by reviewing monthly spend, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Maintain fixed asset subledger and depreciation schedule.
  • Oversee and review all account reconciliations.
  • Manage a team of three staff accountants, providing general guidance, constructive feedback, daily team meetings, weekly 1:1s, and annual performance reviews.
Requirements
  • Proven working experience as a supervisor or senior-level accountant in a similar setting.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience in overseeing financial reporting, tax management, and audit procedures.
  • Adaptability to new systems and software packages (NetSuite or similar ERP experience preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 5-10 years' experience in accounting/finance.
  • Prior management experience preferred.
Physical Duties of this Job

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection), using measurement devices, and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

The worker is subject to environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
