As a key player in our organization, you will be responsible for overseeing fleet and driver adherence to FMCSR and various DOT regulations for a substantial fleet of over 2,000 power units. Your role will involve coordinating and facilitating training initiatives to ensure that all team members are compliant. Collaborating with regional leadership in Operations, you will drive ongoing enhancements in training and compliance processes. Additionally, you will provide insightful metrics and analyses regarding fleet performance to regional leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
DOT Compliance Management:
Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
Maintain comprehensive records of the company's transportation operations. Monitor compliance with all relevant transportation and OSHA safety regulations.
Stay updated on new safety regulations and practices, adjusting company policies and procedures as necessary.
Engage with external agencies and stakeholders to guarantee compliance with safety standards.
Support the management of driver recruitment and training systems.
Assist in the daily evaluation and corrective measures regarding hours of service, unidentified driving, and ELD compliance.
Safety Initiatives:
Contribute to the development and implementation of safety programs aimed at minimizing fleet accidents, environmental incidents, property damage, and injuries during transportation.
Participate in safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and safety concerns.
Provide training to employees at all levels on safety protocols and regulations. Investigate accidents and incidents to ascertain causes and develop preventive strategies as required.
Vendor Relations:
Oversee partnerships with vendors that assist in maintaining DOT compliance.
Negotiate vendor contracts and conduct regular performance reviews.
Manage departmental budget and vendor expenditures while implementing cost-saving measures.
Risk Assessment:
Monitor driver performance metrics and conduct risk assessments with Fleet Supervisors. Compile data and provide trend analyses to Operations leadership consistently.
Additional Duties:
Lead the DOT Compliance Administration team.
Oversee budgetary responsibilities and contribute to financial planning.
Interpret and implement policies for various departments/projects.
Recommend and enact new policies or modifications to existing ones.
Provide general guidelines and parameters for staff operations.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Transportation, Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years in a compliance or safety role within a fleet of over 100 vehicles.
At least 2 years of experience in audit and compliance with a focus on FMCSR standards.
Proven experience in leading and coordinating multiple fleet projects, managing competing priorities and tight deadlines.
This position requires approximately 25% travel (both in-state and out-of-state).
Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to develop responses and action plans for USDOT interventions and safety audits as necessary.
Capable of conducting thorough due diligence and research on incidents involving legal counsel in support of the organization during legal proceedings.
Excellent public speaking skills for addressing groups of team members and stakeholders.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications:
Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) – preferred but not mandatory.
Certified Director of Safety (CDS) – preferred but not mandatory.
