Job Title: Counselor III

Eastern University is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Counselor III to join our team. As a key member of our Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team, you will provide counseling and related services to Eastern University students, consultation and training to the Eastern University community, and assist the CAPS Director with supervision of counseling staff and advanced clinical care issues.

Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct intake assessments with students requesting counseling services and develop referral or treatment plans.
  2. Assist with triage of requests for services, assign cases for counseling, and make other treatment dispositions in the absence of the Director or when requested.
  3. Counsel students in psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual areas with an emphasis on supporting academic functioning, using individual and group methods.
  4. Refer students to resources off-campus when appropriate, coordinate aftercare and return-to-campus-planning for students returning from psychiatric hospitalization.
  5. Support the center's crisis response, respond to counseling and mental health emergencies during normal work hours, and may be contacted after hours by the Director or other university staff for consultation regarding crises with students on the caseload.
  6. Provide workshops and other outreach activities on mental health, emotional/social adjustment, and academic adjustment, as requested by the Director.
  7. Consult with faculty and staff regarding student-related psychological adjustment issues, provide training to Resident Assistants, Student Chaplains, and other student leaders, as requested.
  8. May supervise graduate counseling interns and professional counseling staff who are accruing experience toward licensure, as well as undergraduate interns, when requested by the Director.
  9. Prepare case documentation on a regular basis, prepare special reports and correspondence when needed, and submit records of contacts with students on a weekly basis.
  10. Attend administrative supervision meetings with the Director and department staff meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

We are seeking a Master's degree holder with PA licensure in clinical counseling or a related field and at least three (3) years post-licensure experience providing direct counseling service, including crisis management. Experience in a higher education setting and clinical supervisory experience are preferred. Awareness of multicultural issues in mental health and evidence of readiness to engage students from diverse backgrounds are essential. Interest in and ability to articulate an understanding of the integration of psychological counseling and a Christian worldview are essential.

Educational Requirements:

Master's degree with PA licensure in clinical counseling or a related field.

Experience Requirements:

At least three (3) years post-licensure experience providing direct counseling service, including crisis management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a higher education setting and clinical supervisory experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

Awareness of multicultural issues in mental health and evidence of readiness to engage students from diverse backgrounds.

Interest in and ability to articulate an understanding of the integration of psychological counseling and a Christian worldview.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to climb three flights of stairs several times a day.

Part-time Regular staff who are scheduled 30-36 hours per week over the course of a year receive a full benefit package based on their part-time scheduled hours. Adjunct faculty may be eligible for medical coverage under the ACA after an annual one year lookback review.

Part-time staff who are scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week schedule are eligible for employer contribution towards the retirement plan after one year of employment. Eligibility rules apply. Adjunct faculty may make employee deferral contributions towards the retirement plan.

Part-Time Graduate Assistant Coaches are eligible for participation in the Tuition Remission Coaches Program.

Temporary, Contractors and Seasonal Employees: Individuals in this status are scheduled on an as-needed-basis and are not eligible for participation in the University's benefits programs.
