Job Title: Counselor III

Job Summary:

The Counselor III provides counseling and related services to Eastern University students, consults with faculty and staff regarding student-related psychological adjustment issues, and assists the CCAS Director with supervision of counseling staff and advanced clinical care issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts intake assessments with students requesting counseling services and develops referral or treatment plans.
  • Assists the Director with triage of requests for services, assigns cases for counseling, and makes other treatment dispositions in the absence of the Director.
  • Counsels students in psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual areas with an emphasis on supporting academic functioning, using primarily individual methods and group methods when requested by the Director.
  • Refers students to resources off-campus when appropriate.
  • Responds to counseling and mental health emergencies during normal work hours and after hours on a case-by-case basis when requested and available.
  • Provides workshops and other outreach activities on mental health, emotional/social adjustment, and academic adjustment when requested by the Director.
  • Consults with faculty and staff regarding student-related psychological adjustment issues when requested by the Director.
  • Supervises counseling interns and professional counseling staff accruing experience toward licensure when requested by the Director.
  • Prepares intake reports and progress notes on a regular basis and prepares special reports and correspondence when needed.
  • Submits records of contacts with students on a weekly basis.
  • Attends supervision meetings with CCAS Director (or designated substitute), clinical staff meeting, and general CCAS staff meeting.

Qualifications:

Master's degree with licensure in clinical counseling or a related field and at least three (3) years post-licensure experience providing direct counseling service, including crisis management, are required. Experience in a higher education setting and clinical supervisory experience are preferred. Interest in and ability to articulate an understanding of the integration of psychological counseling and a Christian worldview are essential.
