Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health Specialist to join our team at the State of Maine. As an Occupational Health Specialist, you will be responsible for providing on-site consultations and trainings to various industries, conducting complex occupational health hazard investigations, and analyzing instrument readings and test reports to identify and evaluate environmental health hazards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collects and analyzes information regarding industrial processes to identify potential health hazards.
  • Visits industries to gather samples and measure environmental hazards in work areas.
  • Assists other field staff to ensure work is accomplished properly and applicable Federal and State laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines are followed.
  • Analyzes instrument readings and test reports to identify and evaluate environmental health hazards.
  • Advises other State agencies to provide information on hazardous materials, toxic substances, and consumer product safety.
  • Collects and compiles statistical data and prepares reports to provide information to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • Prepares and presents instruction to train others in OSHA standards and regulations.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Toxicology, Chemistry, or related science.
  • Two years of specialized experience in a chemical, environmental, or related industrial hygiene field.
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, and control occupational health hazards.
  • Ability to prepare complex technical reports.
  • Effective communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to present training programs.
  • Ability to conduct research.
