Sterile Processing Lead

Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department, ensuring proper care and maintenance of all surgical instrumentation, equipment, and sterilization processes. This role requires strong knowledge of principles and practices of aseptic techniques, as well as the ability to work under pressure and in situations that demand patience, tact, and endurance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the daily operation of the Sterile Processing Department and staff.
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of all surgical instrumentation, equipment, and sterilization processes.
  • Communicate effectively with Operating Room staff, including communicating special equipment needs as they arise.
  • Collect, review, and store all documentation required for verification of decontamination/sterilization as required by regulatory bodies and hospital policy.
  • Verify performance and documentation of Quality Improvement (QI) for SPD processes and equipment.
  • Prepare reports to support Performance Improvement recommendations for equipment and instrument purchases.
  • Staff the department adequately for daily schedules.
  • Review and revise policies and procedures as needed and on required intervals.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of Sterile Processing Program from an accredited institution or equivalent clinical experience in SPD.
  • Certification required for Supervisor position along with 3-5 years of experience in SPD department.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and written.
  • Computer skills needed.
  • Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
