Laboratory Assistant

At Hudson Regional Hospital, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to join our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receives and prepares specimens for testing, disposal, and shipping.
- Evaluates specimens to determine suitability for testing.
- Performs venous and capillary blood draws for laboratory testing.
- Demonstrates excellent phlebotomy skills.
- Follows all policies and procedures associated with specimens and patient identification.
- Assists supervisors in providing technical instructions and training to new personnel.
- Participates in departmental meetings as needed.
- Recognizes and resolves processing errors or discrepancies.
- Evaluates specimens and test orders for acceptability and determines rejections.
- Labels specimens properly and aliquots samples as required.
- Reviews pending logs and investigates/resolves outstanding specimen issues.
- Monitors inventory of supplies and notifies supervisors to order as needed.
- Prepares specimens for reference labs and obtains results as needed.
- Performs data entry, test orders, and operates computer programs associated with testing.
- Communicates effectively with internal and external customers.
- Demonstrates knowledge of all procedures performed in the assigned department section.
- Investigates and documents laboratory problems related to specimen collection and receipt.
- Participates in continuing education programs and training/retraining as necessary.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- Healthcare certification or prior laboratory or healthcare experience desired.
- Excellent phlebotomy skills required.
Credentials and Qualifications:
- Degrees from foreign institutions will require credential equivalency evaluation.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service internally and externally.
- Possess superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed procedures.
- Proven skills of critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and handle a high volume workload efficiently.
