Responsibilities

Position Overview:

We are currently in search of a full-time surgical Physician Assistant to join our esteemed Cardiac Surgery team. Our dedicated group of eight PAs collaborates closely with seven cardiovascular surgeons within one of the leading cardiac surgery programs in the region. Last year, our combined hospitals successfully conducted over 1300 open-heart surgeries, showcasing our advanced TAVR program, DaVinci robotic surgery capabilities, and expertise in TEVARs and complex aortic and valvular procedures.

Ideal candidates will possess proficiency in all facets of first assisting during significant cardiac surgical operations, including both endoscopic and open vein harvesting. Experience in a high-volume cardiothoracic surgery environment is essential. This role primarily involves operating room duties, with occasional inpatient rounding as required. Our schedule consists of four ten-hour shifts weekly, with daily hours subject to variability based on surgical caseloads. The position includes overnight call (OR only) once a week and 1 to 2 weekends monthly.

This hourly role offers additional compensation through call pay and overtime, resulting in a total earnings potential that exceeds the base salary.

Incentives: A $15,000 sign-on bonus and a $5,000 relocation allowance are available.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Cardiac Surgery Physician Assistant
  • Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the NCCPA
  • NCCPA certification and a valid California Physician Assistant License
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred
  • BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of sterile techniques in surgical environments
  • Experience as a First Assistant in cardiac surgical procedures
  • Competence in placing Foley catheters and central venous and arterial lines
  • Preferred experience in endoscopic and open vein harvesting
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical setting
  • Capacity to function effectively as part of a team while maintaining a high degree of autonomy
