Job Overview

The Neurosurgical Critical Care Physician Assistant plays a vital role in delivering specialized care to patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures and their families. This position involves providing direct patient care to hospitalized individuals, which includes conducting comprehensive medical histories and physical examinations, managing pre-and post-operative care, and overseeing laboratory and imaging studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and develop care plans.
  • Engage in telephone triage to address patient inquiries.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews and quality assurance meetings as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of recent experience as a Physician Assistant in neurosurgery, critical care, or neurology.
  • Valid California Physician Assistant license.
  • National certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program with a Master's degree.
  • DEA certification within three months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications from the American Heart Association.
  • Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) certification within three months of employment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration with medical and nursing staff.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated judgment and organizational skills for independent practice.
  • Physical capability to lift 25 pounds and perform necessary visual assessments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent experience in a neurocritical care setting.

The Department of Neurological Surgery is a specialized clinical unit within the School of Medicine, dedicated to providing patient care, education, and research in neurosurgery. It serves as a key referral center for neurosurgical patients in the region.
