Join Our Team of Skilled Mechanics

The City and County of Honolulu is seeking dedicated automotive fleet technicians at various levels to engage in the repair and upkeep of our extensive fleet of vehicles and heavy machinery.

Position Levels:

Fleet Technician I (BC-08): $5,286/month.

This is an introductory role ideal for individuals aiming to build a career in the maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy machinery.

Selected candidates must meet the essential qualifications and demonstrate the ability to acquire the necessary skills to advance to the journey level.


Fleet Technician II (BC-10): $5,873/month.

This role involves independently servicing and overhauling a range of gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel vehicles and equipment within the fleet, including:

light vehicles (cars, light to medium trucks), construction machinery (front end loaders, paving machines), and heavy vehicles (refuse trucks, dump trucks); along with other related responsibilities.


Fleet Technician III (BC-11): $6,087/month.

This advanced role entails independently repairing, maintaining, and overhauling various heavy motorized vehicles and equipment in the fleet, such as refuse trucks, dump trucks, cranes, and bulldozers, as a primary responsibility; along with additional duties as required.


Work Conditions:

Depending on the department and specific role, candidates may be required to work on weekends, holidays, and may be subject to rotating or night shifts.

Qualifications:

Fleet Technician I:
Candidates should possess experience and/or training sufficient to competently perform the required skills and duties. Typically, this experience is gained through completion of a recognized automotive or diesel mechanic program.


Such experience must demonstrate knowledge of basic automotive, diesel, and heavy equipment technology, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory, and routine repair techniques.


Fleet Technician II:

Candidates should have experience and/or training that enables them to competently perform journey-level skills and duties.


Experience must include maintenance and overhauls of various motorized vehicles and equipment, including involvement in complex tasks and supplemental training to enhance industry knowledge.


Fleet Technician III:

Candidates should have experience and/or training that allows them to competently perform journey-level skills and duties of a Fleet Technician III.


Experience must include the repair and overhaul of intricate hydraulic and electrical systems on various heavy vehicles.


Licenses/Certificates:
All levels require a valid Driver's License and other certifications prior to appointment.
Evaluation:
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, applications will be evaluated based on the quality and quantity of education, training, and experience relevant to the position.
