Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the City of Hampton, VA. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the nursing process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the nursing process through ongoing systematic data collection, assisting in the health assessment, recording observations, goal identification, and patient health education.
  • Perform duties under the direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator and be accountable for use of delegated authority.
  • Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies throughout the facility, including performing continuous CPR until properly relieved.
  • Administer and document medications on the Medication Administration Record.
  • Assist with histories and physicals on inmates, assess patient's health status, and refer to appropriate level of healthcare provider.
  • Physically assist Physician in patient examinations and treatments, document all nursing care provided, and implement and follow up on Physician/Dentist written orders and verbal orders if permitted.
  • Teach healthcare information to patients and correctional staff, adhere to safety and security policies, and participate in disaster drills.
  • Perform venipuncture and I.V. therapy if certified, collect samples, specimens, and cultures per Physician orders, and follow security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
  • Ability to deal with and respond to stressful situations in a stressful environment, require regular and reliable attendance, and adhere to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
Requirements
  • Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing Program and currently licensed as a Practical Vocational Nurse in the state.
  • Good physical health, ability to function in a stressful environment, and relate well to patients, security staff, and healthcare team members.
  • Must have the capability to hear, speak, and see to communicate with the general public.
  • Physical exertion may be required to climb stairs and over walls, run, bend, twist, reach, crawl through tight spaces, kneel in confined areas, sit for prolonged periods of time, move/push/pull, or lift heavy objects exceeding 50 lbs.
