Job Summary

The Surgical Assistant plays a vital role in the perioperative team, providing support to surgeons and other healthcare professionals during surgical procedures. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons and other healthcare professionals during surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile environment and adhering to asepsis principles.
  • Organize and coordinate supplies and equipment to ensure an efficient and cost-effective department.
  • Perform scrubbing duties, including assisting with patient positioning and preparing equipment for procedures.
  • Assist with room turnover and maintain a safe environment for patients, coworkers, and self.
  • Perform preceptor duties, training and educating new staff members on surgical procedures and protocols.
  • Charge equipment and supplies, and assist with inventory management.
  • Assist nurses in planning patient care and provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients.
  • Effectively operate autoclave sterilization units and maintain knowledge of normal and pathologic anatomy and physiology.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or Certificate in Surgical Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) or equivalent certification.
  • Two years of Operating Room scrubbing experience in at least five major services.
