Position Overview
This role is pivotal in spearheading the creation, enhancement, and innovation of salad products and fruit snacks, guiding them from concept through all phases of development. The Senior Product Development Technologist will deliver substantial scientific and technical support to team members, ensuring the successful execution of projects that yield innovative and competitive products, processes, and systems aligned with market demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively generate and implement new concepts and projects to expand our innovation pipeline.
- Lead projects focused on the development and market introduction of new products, enhancements, and cost-reduction strategies.
- Design and improve products while ensuring compliance with company standards for cost, quality, marketing, and development.
- Enhance and expand existing brands utilizing laboratory experiments, vendor partnerships, and full-scale manufacturing processes.
- Provide essential design and processing parameters for new product initiatives.
- Conduct shelf life assessments for new products and ingredients.
- Refine existing products by optimizing formulas or attributes such as cost, nutritional content, and ingredient transparency.
- Identify and resolve cost-saving opportunities, product packaging modifications, equipment adjustments, and manufacturability challenges using scientific methodologies.
- Collaborate with the Innovation team to develop comprehensive Master Recipes and processes that are adaptable to manufacturing environments.
- Research and integrate new flavors, ingredients, and methodologies into product development.
- Work closely with operations to enhance processes and production for existing products while adhering to product specifications.
- Manage project resources and budgets effectively.
- Utilize strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with cross-functional business partners.
- Travel to relevant facilities as necessary to support product development and launch initiatives.
Qualifications & Education
A minimum of 4 years of experience in R&D or Technical Applications within Product Development or related fields is required. Candidates should possess 5-8 years of experience in the food industry, specifically in product or process development roles, with expertise in product formulation, process optimization, and quality improvements.
Skills & Attributes
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with business partners and cross-functional teams is essential. Candidates should exhibit strong problem-solving capabilities, innovation, and creativity. The ideal candidate will thrive in a team-oriented environment, managing multiple projects in a dynamic setting while maintaining attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Additional Considerations
Familiarity with manufacturing processes and equipment is beneficial. Candidates should be comfortable working in cold environments and be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
