About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled AI Security Engineer to join our Trustworthy and Secure AI Department within the Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy Innovation Center. As an AI Security Engineer, you will be responsible for researching, developing, evaluating, and integrating AI capabilities, with a particular focus on security and trust, especially for generative AI.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and development of AI capabilities, including large language models, to address critical national and global challenges in domains such as health, transportation, law, climate change, national security, and defense.
  • Contribute to projects or small teams to solve complex AI security problems for our sponsors.
  • Evaluate technology solutions in the context of mission data and workflow needs, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Communicate complex ideas to non-technical audiences through briefings and/or white papers.
Requirements
  • Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a related Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning and one or more of the following technical areas: Generative AI, AI Security, Trustworthy AI, AI Governance, or AI T&E.
  • Demonstrated skills with Python and the standard ML stack (Tensorflow/Torch, NumPy, Pandas, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to both lay and expert audiences.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience publishing consequential AI research in journals or conferences.
  • Track-record of successful deployment of AI/ML systems or components that have been used by customers or stakeholders outside of a lab/experimental setting.
  • Active IC or DOD TS/SCI security clearance.
