Position Overview
This announcement is not a job offer. This requisition is designed to build a strong candidate pool for potential part-time positions in the Sociology discipline at CSN. If a part-time role becomes available, the hiring department will assess the applications and invite selected candidates for interviews based on their qualifications. Please note that if selected for a part-time instructor role, no minimum course load is guaranteed, and teaching assignments depend on various factors, including student enrollment and departmental needs. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed for local or out-of-area candidates, and there is no assurance of ongoing or future part-time or full-time employment.
Applications will be reviewed as needed based on course availability. All courses will be conducted at one of our main campuses. Online course offerings are not available. Class schedules will occur during daytime hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruct live, on-campus courses in the Sociology curriculum, supporting the Sociology Associate of Arts Degree and General Education requirements for other programs.
- Primarily teach introductory level courses (Soc 101), with potential for other courses based on departmental needs.
- Multi-campus instruction may be necessary to fulfill departmental requirements.
- Maintain accurate records, submit grades, and communicate with department and college personnel following established protocols.
- Develop course syllabi and materials in line with college policies.
- Deliver course objectives and utilize the department-selected textbook effectively.
- Assess student mastery of skills and competencies as per course outcomes.
- Provide students with syllabi that comply with college, department, and program standards.
- Evaluate student performance in accordance with assessment guidelines.
- Communicate with students promptly.
- Complete assessment-related assignments.
Compensation: This position offers a payment of $925.00 per credit hour, with credit hours varying by semester.
Required Qualifications:
- A Master's Degree in Sociology or 18 graduate hours in Sociology along with a master's degree in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching College Sociology or related courses.
- Familiarity with CANVAS or other learning management systems.
- Proficiency in basic computer software operations.
Exempt Status: Yes
Full-Time Equivalent: 15.0%
