Key Responsibilities

The Oncology Care Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the seamless coordination and continuity of services for patients undergoing various cancer treatments.

This role involves collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to oversee and manage all facets of care for a specific patient population.

Responsibilities include assessing and planning care in partnership with patients, families, and healthcare team members to address the cancer care needs throughout the treatment journey.

Tasks may encompass coordinating appointments across specialties, serving as a liaison for patients and their families, delivering patient education, and identifying barriers to care.

This position also provides guidance to other healthcare staff as necessary.

Care is delivered with a holistic, patient-centered approach, emphasizing the importance of assisting patients in accessing appropriate services while minimizing overall care costs.

The Oncology Care Coordinator will operate within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.

This role promotes ethical decision-making and advocacy for patients, enhancing their understanding of treatment plans and diagnoses. The Oncology Care Coordinator may also facilitate shared decision-making and collaboration among patients, caregivers, and the care team. Interaction with research professionals for awareness and promotion of clinical trial opportunities is also part of this role.

Qualifications

- Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience preferred.

Additional Qualifications:
- Preferred experience in oncology and familiarity with disease population characteristics and desired outcomes.
- Strong leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills are essential.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including days, evenings, and weekends.
- Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work environment is required.

License or Certification:
- Current RN license as per state regulations.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required for specific regions.
- Must obtain relevant oncology certifications within two years of hire.
