Job Title: Vascular Sonographer - Diagnostic Imaging

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a highly skilled Vascular Sonographer to join our Diagnostic Imaging team in Oak Forest, Illinois.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Vascular Sonographer to perform a comprehensive array of sophisticated abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, and small parts procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ultrasound technology and be able to demonstrate technical competence in the operation of all imaging and monitoring related equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnostic Imaging: Perform a comprehensive array of sophisticated abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, and small parts procedures, demonstrating technical competence in the operation of all imaging and monitoring related equipment.
  • Image Acquisition: Independently provide technically optimal, thorough, and accurate images for diagnostic assessment, recognizing and demonstrating critical findings such as deep vein thrombosis, ectopic pregnancy, aortic aneurysms, or dissection.
  • Equipment Operation: Demonstrate competence in the operation of all imaging and monitoring related equipment, reporting any equipment problems to the Department Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Procedure Assistance: Assist physicians during other related procedures such as amniocentesis, thoracentesis, biopsies, cath lab procedures, surgery, thrombin injection, and compression for pseudoaneurysm.
  • Hemodynamics Assessment: Assess arterial circulation by using pulse doppler, duplex imaging, and physiologic indirect testing, analyzing and demonstrating hemodynamics of the extracranial, carotid arteries, and documenting per criteria and protocol.
  • Documentation: Document patient history, images, and analysis for interpretation, reviewing patient charts for medical information and explaining test procedures to patients.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in the department QA program and accreditation process, attending and participating in department meetings and inservices to ensure technical competence.
  • Patient Safety: Ensure a secure and safe patient and work environment, maintaining adequate supplies, adhering to sterile techniques, and complying with OSHA standards for infection control.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support for the smooth and efficient operation of the Ultrasound and Vascular Department, communicating with other departments to successfully schedule various exams for patients.
  • Professional Development: Stay abreast of the latest ultrasound developments, maintaining professional accreditation, and participating in continuing education seminars and professional societies.
Requirements:
  • Licensure and Registration: Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS) needs to be obtained within 3 months, unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • Education and Experience: Associates degree in Allied Health or Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health Science preferred, typically requiring 1 year experience in Abdomen and OB/GYN, and 1 year experience in Vascular exams.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Proficient skills in abdomen, OB, pelvic, endovaginal, small parts, venous doppler, carotid doppler, and arterial studies, moderate skills in assisting radiologists with procedures.
