Job Overview

Position Summary

The Van Driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from educational institutions, as well as to various extracurricular activities and events as designated.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Arrive at the designated location prior to the scheduled departure to receive updates from the dispatcher regarding any alterations in routine or student passenger details.
  • Conduct required pre-trip inspections in compliance with DOT regulations and perform a radio check before initiating each route.
  • Collect students at assigned locations, ensuring that all children board the van safely and are seated before proceeding.
  • Uphold rules for appropriate behavior during transit. Report any students who do not comply with safety regulations to the Site Manager. Document any significant incidents and communicate with the Site Manager for further discussion with school authorities.
  • Operate the van safely by adhering to all traffic laws and transit regulations. Navigate roads cautiously, being vigilant for hazardous conditions such as ice or debris. Follow established safety protocols to ensure the well-being of all passengers.
  • Inspect the van upon returning to the garage to confirm that no child is left behind.
  • Transport students and authorized personnel to field trips, sports events, and other scheduled activities.
  • Immediately report any accidents to the Site Manager and complete the necessary accident documentation promptly.
  • Maintain the van by ensuring fuel levels are adequate and cleaning the interior after each trip or at least weekly. Notify office staff of any maintenance requirements.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and workshops to gather information essential for performing job functions effectively.
  • Carry out other related tasks as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the vehicle.

Qualifications and Skills

To successfully fulfill the role, candidates should possess the following:

? A valid Minnesota Driver's License, with the ability to maintain it.

? Comprehensive knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.

? Familiarity with emergency evacuation procedures.

? Capability to administer basic first aid and/or hold CPR certification if required.

? Awareness of health standards and potential hazards.

? Understanding of state laws and regulations governing school transportation and child behavior.
