Facility Overview
The MacDill Air Force Base serves as a key military installation, located just a short distance from downtown Tampa. It is home to the 6th Air Refueling Wing, which is part of the Eighteenth Air Force under the Air Mobility Command. The 6th Medical Group is dedicated to providing comprehensive medical services to over 215,000 Department of Defense beneficiaries in the surrounding area.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a comprehensive range of medical services as per the privileges granted by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
- Guide and mentor other healthcare professionals within the scope of clinical privileges.
- Conduct thorough examinations, diagnose conditions, and prescribe treatment plans based on training and experience.
- Provide preventive care and health maintenance, including annual physicals and health education.
- Order necessary diagnostic tests and facilitate referrals to specialists as needed.
- Educate and train medical staff, ensuring adherence to government and professional standards.
- Offer care to patients in various clinics, including Flight Medicine and Occupational Health, while managing associated administrative tasks.
- Ensure comprehensive health maintenance, including preventive, behavioral, occupational, and community health services.
- Specific duties include:
- Patient examinations and formulation of diagnostic plans.
- Interpretation of test results and implementation of treatment strategies.
- Coordination of consultations and medical care with specialists.
- Management of case activities and patient inquiries.
- Provision of primary and secondary preventive care.
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical institution in the United States or Canada.
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility is required.
- Completion of an accredited internship and residency program in medicine.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a privileged flight surgeon at a military installation, including:
- Knowledge of military medical standards for operational evaluations.
- Experience in aeromedical assessments for flying personnel.
- Capability to conduct adaptability assessments for military duties.
- Expertise in medical fitness and profiling standards.
- Provision of primary care to active-duty members and their families.
