POSITION SUMMARY

A.

This role is integral to the operations of Raleigh Radiology, encompassing various imaging facilities and outpatient centers in the surrounding regions.

B. The primary responsibility of the registered MRI technologist is to conduct magnetic resonance imaging studies for outpatients.

C. The technologist is tasked with overseeing patient care, adhering to established protocols, policies, and specific directives. D. It is essential for the technologist to hold ARRT (MR) registration.

E. This position is accountable to the MRI Supervisor and/or the Senior Manager of Clinical Operations.

F. The technologist operates under the guidance of the radiologist, which may involve on-site or remote supervision.

WORK SCHEDULE: Day shift 6:45am-3:15pm; Monday-Friday

II. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1) General Diagnostic Responsibilities 50%

a) Upholds professional care standards and ensures patient confidentiality.

b) Implements the policies and procedures of Raleigh Radiology.

c) Conducts required procedures safely, efficiently, and professionally, following all necessary protocols.


d) Evaluates the patient's condition (both physical and psychosocial); prioritizes needs, sets objectives, and responds appropriately to meet those needs, including discharge education.

e) Records and reports relevant observations and reactions to the care provided.

f) Administers contrast to designated patients.

g) Assists with specific tests and procedures as required.

h) Engages in the economical use of supplies.

i) Ensures that equipment is consistently maintained and ready for use.

j) Collaborates with co-workers and physicians in providing patient care.

k) Establishes and maintains effective communication.

l) Utilizes educational opportunities with patients and significant others.

m) Assists with or initiates emergency measures for sudden adverse occurrences in patients.

n) Maintains a clean, safe, and well-supplied environment for patients and staff.

o) Regularly collaborates with other staff members to accomplish job duties while assisting others in their responsibilities; serves as a team player and role model, consistently demonstrating courtesy, caring, helpfulness, and respect; conducts oneself in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, sensitive, respectful, and kind when interacting with team members, visitors, and the public.

p) Performs additional duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.

2) Patient Care Activities 35%

a) Gathers initial history and assessment.

b) Completes and documents history sheets.

c) Engages with patients to ensure a positive experience.

Conducts assessments that
may include:


i) Vital signs, lab value interpretation ii) Reason for procedure iii) Relevant medical history iv) Comprehensive list of medications and dosages, if necessary v) Allergies vi) Other pertinent assessment details such as LMP, medical history, weight, etc.

vii) Performs IStat Creatinine labs on applicable patients.

e) Observes and assesses patients continuously throughout their visit.

i) Evaluates the patient's physical and psychological state and their responses to the procedure.

ii) Accurately reflects the patient's condition.


iii) Conducts assessments (when appropriate) such as neuro checks, breath sounds, etc., as directed by the supervising Radiologist or referring MD, either on-site or remotely.

Notifies the appropriate personnel when emergencies arise. iv) Initiates emergency procedures up to and including BLS. v) Documents assessments/changes in condition in EIS. vi) Assesses and documents patient understanding of the procedure and aftercare, as appropriate. (1) Records in EIS that teaching or after-care instructions were provided.

(2) Documents when referring MD is contacted in EIS and/or Clario and provides written instructions to the patient to ensure follow-through.

(3) Follows up in a timely manner on the condition of patients who experience adverse reactions.

(4) Documents relevant information on forms utilized by Raleigh Radiology.

f) Provides accurate patient history to the Radiologist for precise image interpretation.

i) Communicates concisely and accurately reflects physiological facts regarding each patient.

ii) Relays reports immediately upon completion of the procedure when instructed (Quick Read/Call Report). iii) Initiates communication directly with peers or other relevant personnel to ensure continuous quality patient care.

3) Safety/Infection Control 10%

a) Adheres to safety and infection control policies and procedures.

b) Reports unsafe equipment and ensures follow-up.

c) Assesses patients and plans accordingly for safety and infection control.

d) Ensures that all necessary equipment for care provision is readily available and functional.

e) Reports incidents and unusual occurrences per department policies.

f) Utilizes protective aprons, eyewear, masks, gloves, and radiation monitoring devices as required for each procedure.

4) Additional Duties 5%

a) Applies principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide appropriate treatment and care.

b) Maintains strict confidentiality of all facility and employee/patient information.

c) Performs other assigned duties, which may include scheduling and registration of patients.

III. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE

A

Education:

Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program or equivalent experience with ARRT registration.

B

Experience:
Previous experience in a high-volume office or hospital setting is preferred.

C

Certification:


  • AHA BLS certification is required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment. Continuous AHA BLS certification is mandatory.
  • Registered as a Radiologic Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, RT(R)(ARRT), at the time of hire.
  • Registered in MRI with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, RT(R)(MR)(ARRT) preferred upon hire.

IV. DESIRED SKILLS

Basic patient care skills, including first aid and BLS. Excellent technical skills in MRI are essential. Ability to work independently, make sound decisions based on patient condition, and follow directions. Flexibility, dependability, and professionalism are crucial.

V. WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


Must be able to read printed material without strain, glasses permitted, and possess the ability to hear conversational voices, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily; may be exposed to infections and contagious diseases.

Frequent, prolonged periods of standing and/or walking. Lifts, positions, pushes, or transfers patients. Lifts and moves supply boxes. Subject to rotating holidays or shifts.

The Registered Technologist operates with oversight from the Radiologists and Senior Manager of Clinical Operations, although considerable independent work is expected.

Review of work is generally limited to ensuring compliance with policies and procedures as assessed by the Radiologist.

The employee is expected to notify management when unforeseen events or circumstances necessitate significant changes.
