Position Overview
The Behavioral Support Educator is tasked with creating tailored educational programs for students. This role involves designing, executing, and connecting daily student activities to the core curriculum.
Through ongoing collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including parents, district and county staff, and various organizations, the educator fosters the academic, social, and emotional development of each student by employing a range of instructional techniques.
The educator continuously evaluates student progress to help them reach their maximum potential.In this particular role, the Behavioral Support Educator for Emotionally Disturbed students develops individualized education plans for those exhibiting behavioral and social challenges that cannot be addressed in other special education settings or mainstream classrooms.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures appropriate supervision for all students;
- Creates daily instructional strategies, including Individual Education Plans (IEP);
- Engages with parents, district and county personnel, and public agencies;
- Guides students in age-appropriate activities and behaviors;
- Assists in coordinating the student’s general education program;
- Keeps accurate student records and documentation;
- Delivers personalized instruction to students;
- Monitors and assesses student progress;
- Prepares various forms of communication (including parent notifications and administrative requests);
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential that authorizes service to students with Emotional Disturbance disabilities or eligibility to obtain such authorization;
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a teacher within the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools;
- Experience teaching students with emotional disturbances;
- Background as a general education classroom teacher;
- At least one year of successful experience in a California school district or County Schools Office.
