Job Summary:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Engineering Technician to join our team at the Harold Scheibe Engineering Laboratory. As an Engineering Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the laboratory's operations and ensuring the safe use of equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and ensure safe use of laboratory equipment, including 3D printers, CNC tools, and laser cutters.
  • Work with equipment manufacturers to maintain and repair laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Support college equipment inventory and insurance processes, ensuring accurate records and compliance with regulations.
  • Coordinate lab schedule and equipment use, ensuring seamless operations and minimizing downtime.
  • Mentor work-study students and enable them to become laboratory leaders, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Create a repository of print and video tutorials on how to use, operate, and maintain equipment, promoting knowledge retention and transfer.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops for GCC students and k-12 students in GCC's service area, promoting STEM education and community engagement.
  • Support faculty and staff as needed, providing technical expertise and assistance to ensure successful project outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience with computer-aided design software and additive manufacturing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with or willingness to learn AI tools.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other microcontroller systems, and experience using laser cutters, CNC Milling Machines, and other prototyping tools.
