Position Overview
In this role, you will be tasked with the underwriting of property facultative reinsurance programs within the United States. As a Facultative Underwriter, your expertise will be crucial in conducting risk assessments, evaluating coverage, determining pricing, and engaging with assigned brokers and clients. This position will involve leading or supporting negotiations to ensure the growth and profitability of the facultative reinsurance portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently assess and price certificate and program business in alignment with corporate and departmental guidelines.
- Underwrite both new and renewal business, performing comprehensive risk and coverage evaluations, and provide informed recommendations for proposed terms within your underwriting authority.
- Examine primary policies, reinsurance contracts, and endorsement language to ensure accuracy and compliance with established guidelines.
- Refer any business that exceeds your underwriting authority to the appropriate referral underwriter.
- Analyze required risk information and propose reinsurance solutions to brokers and clients.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records of all business transactions.
- Offer insights into quantitative and qualitative analyses of results for the Strategic Business Unit (SBU).
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination between the SBU, Regional Division, and the Company.
- Collaborate closely with the Claims department.
- Assist management in fulfilling various managerial responsibilities as needed.
- Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and sustain client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
- Deliver prompt and effective service on all broker and direct client inquiries.
- Monitor the profitability of assigned clients.
- Promote the Group's capabilities and strengths externally.
- Reviews: Engage in peer reviews of team members' accounts.
- Participate in underwriting reviews of program clients or potential clients, sometimes in collaboration with the Reinsurance Division.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in (re)insurance underwriting, the broker community, or corporate risk markets.
- 5+ years of underwriting experience is preferred.
- A Bachelor's Degree is preferred; an advanced degree is a plus.
- CPCU and ARe designations are preferred.
- Proficiency in pricing models, tools, and other risk evaluation methodologies.
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent negotiation abilities, and effective oral and written communication skills, along with a solid understanding of accounting, finance, and actuarial principles.
- Ability to manage client relationships and ensure profitability.
- Experience working with Brokers, Direct Clients, or Managing General Agents is essential.
- Willingness to travel for branch office visits, annual client audits, client and broker meetings, and industry conferences (approximately 30% of the time).
The anticipated salary range for this position is $150,300 - $220,400, with the potential for a company bonus based on a percentage of eligible pay. The company also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a 401k match, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
