Position Overview:
As a Fermentation and Yeast Specialist, you will be an integral member of our Corporate Yeast, Fermentation, and Microbiology Team. In this role, you will serve as the steward of our yeast and bacteria culture collection.
Your responsibilities will include planning, designing, and executing laboratory tests while providing expert consultation to our breweries on both routine quality assessments and complex non-routine practices. This encompasses a wide range of areas, including laboratory testing, ingredient evaluation, process optimization, and addressing consumer feedback for all MillerCoors facilities.
You will also be responsible for training brewery teams on yeast and microbiology methods that ensure the quality of our products and those produced under contract.
Additionally, you will support the implementation of innovative technologies and methodologies in microbiology and yeast testing. This role demands scientific expertise, leadership, and support in yeast management, propagation, and fermentation processes, ensuring consistent quality across our domestic breweries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and execute routine microbiological testing and complex projects, including data analysis and interpretive reporting.
- Develop and implement laboratory information systems in collaboration with quality specialists.
- Conduct training sessions for brewery microbiologists on testing methods and fermentation science.
- Manage and maintain the yeast culture collection and associated databases.
- Ensure the efficient operation and safety of the corporate laboratory.
- Write and review standards and testing protocols to maintain accuracy and compliance.
- Provide expert guidance on yeast propagation, handling, and fermentation technologies.
- Analyze data to troubleshoot yeast and fermentation issues and oversee the introduction of new systems.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you should possess a Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant scientific discipline and have a minimum of five years of experience in microbiology within the brewing sector. You should have a deep understanding of microbiological principles, particularly in brewing microbiology, molecular biology, yeast physiology, and fermentation processes.
Recognized as a technical expert in brewing microbiology, you should also have experience with microscopy techniques, molecular typing, and rapid detection methods. Your ability to teach microbiology concepts to diverse audiences will be essential.
Additionally, you should be familiar with cryogenic techniques, microbial isolation, and aseptic practices, and possess strong communication skills. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to achieving results are crucial.
