Job Summary:The School Nurse - RN is responsible for providing comprehensive health services to students, including health education, health promotion, and disease prevention. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to implement policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide direct care to students, utilizing professional assessment skills and established school health protocols.
- Serve as a health advocate for students, notifying parents of accidents or illnesses and securing medical care as needed.
- Coordinate the administration of medications to students, following district policy and procedures.
- Develop and implement effective procedures for mandatory screening programs, making referrals as necessary.
- Participate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.
- Collaborate with other professionals to implement health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
- Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Certified by the Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening.
- CPR Certification.
The School Nurse - RN will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, teachers, parents, and other staff members. The ability to maintain emotional control under stress and exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases are essential for this role.
Supervisory Responsibilities:The School Nurse - RN will direct the work of licensed vocational nurse (LVN) and assigned health clinic aide(s).
Equipment Used:The School Nurse - RN will use a variety of equipment, including thermometers, blood pressure cuffs, audiometers, and vision screening equipment.
