Job Title: Senior Associate, State Affairs

As a Senior Associate, State Affairs, you will play a critical role in managing public policy campaigns and engaging in state legislative activities related to nursing practice and regulation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in legislative activities at the state level, assisting and promoting the passage of bills related to nursing regulation.
  • Employ a variety of strategies and develop resources to advance legislative priorities.
  • Represent the National Council of State Boards of Nursing at state and national meetings, building and maintaining strategic relationships.
  • Monitor the legislative environment and keep membership apprised of trends and emerging policy issues.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Member Engagement & Government Affairs and Director, State Affairs to develop policy and position papers.
  • Plan conferences, author Policy Perspectives for publication in the Journal of Nursing Regulation, and participate in policy track for ICRS program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • At least seven years of experience in public policy or state legislative affairs.
  • Graduate education in public policy, law, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience managing public policy campaigns required.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, analytical, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of professional regulation, public protection, and scope of practice issues desired.
  • Experience with 501(c) organizations (membership or constituency based) preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to take initiative and demonstrate self-motivation.
  • Ethically sound with a strong sense of political sensitivity and savviness.
