Job Title: Senior Internal Auditor, LACERA

Job Summary:

LACERA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Internal Auditor to join our team. As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will be responsible for performing operational, compliance, and management audits, consulting engagements, and continuous monitoring projects. You will lead the work of an audit team and prepare reports of audit findings and make recommendations for corrective action.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform moderately difficult to complex audits, investigations, and consulting engagements under the supervision of the Principal Internal Auditor, LACERA, or the Chief, Internal Audit, LACERA.
  • Provide independent and objective appraisals of the organization and ensure internal controls over operations are adequate to safeguard assets and comply with applicable laws, policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of professional principles, audit standards, auditing practices, and procedures, and applicable law and regulations to perform assigned audit and consulting projects.
  • Be knowledgeable regarding professional accounting principles.

Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of experience as an Internal Auditor, LACERA, or graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting, finance, business, economics, computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience performing operational, compliance, or management audits and/or consulting engagements, or three (3) years of progressively responsible experience performing complex financial analyses in pension, investment, banking, or insurance industries, or two (2) years of progressively responsible experience performing analyses of information systems design, implementation, testing, and database development and management.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the following areas: performing routine assurance audits and advisory assignments independently, performing complex and technical audit projects independently, leading internal audit teams in the completion of projects related to an Audit Plan, ensuring documentation and maintenance of work papers and files for Audit assignments, assisting in the completion and preparation of Annual Risk Assessments, performing oversight of projects assigned to Professional Service Providers, providing presentations and educational information at board meetings and/or executive meetings.
  • Possession of one or more of the following certifications: Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Working Conditions:

This full-time position is required to work a 5/40 schedule (e.g., an eight (8) hour day, Monday through Friday) for at least the first twelve (12) months of employment. This position may be eligible for Flexible/hybrid work schedule.
