Position Overview:

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is dedicated to enhancing the environment and safeguarding public health for all residents by ensuring the delivery of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and mitigating pollution.

Department Background:

As the largest municipal water and wastewater utility in the United States, DEP operates with a workforce of nearly 6,000 employees. The water supply system includes 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes, covering a vast watershed area.

Bureau Responsibilities:

The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) oversees the operation and maintenance of facilities responsible for sewage treatment across the city. This encompasses 14 treatment plants, sludge dewatering facilities, and various pumping stations and regulators.

Role Summary:

The selected candidate will work within the Collections Support Division of the Project Delivery Directorate, focusing on the planning, coordination, and management of multiple projects aimed at ensuring the efficient operation of collection facilities and linear assets.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage long-term service contracts related to the Citywide Sewer Collection System under the guidance of the Section Chief.
  2. Compile and submit reports based on field inspections and investigations, maintaining comprehensive records of all projects.
  3. Conduct field inspections to assess the progress or completion of contracts and in-house work.
  4. Prepare contract specifications, cost estimates, work orders, and requisitions as directed.
  5. Engage in engineering tasks and perform various investigations and studies under supervision.
  6. Oversee the tracking of cleaned residuals to authorized disposal sites.
  7. Familiarize with and adhere to relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as DEP policies.

Qualifications:

1. A bachelor's degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited institution, along with one year of relevant experience; or

2. A bachelor's degree in the aforementioned fields, supplemented by a master's degree in environmental engineering from an accredited institution. Note that a master's degree can substitute for one year of experience.
