About the Position
As a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor III, you will play a crucial role in delivering face-to-face rehabilitative programming services in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP). Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering treatment programming services to participants and conducting group and/or individual sessions.
- Effectively implementing scheduled program curriculum and leading face-to-face group and individual meetings using motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic processes.
- Engaging participants daily, reinforcing group rules and expectations for participation and completion.
- Working directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educating them about supportive networks as they return to the community.
- Reviewing treatment plans, evaluating, and recording treatment progress, as well as documenting visible changes in appearance, behavior, and demeanor of program participants.
- Maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential participant records and evaluating and documenting the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
- Completing all delivery documentation requirements, summarizing participants' background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes.
- Preparing accurate, concise, and informative reports, records, and plans that are consistent with Amity standards and comply with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
- Liaising with transition/reentry staff, planning, and preparing transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
- Mentoring Counselor I and II Level AOD Counselors/OMCP Mentors.
- Working collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS, and institution staff, supporting and collaborating with co-faculty, including Supervisors, Directors, and Regional Directors.
- Participating in monthly, block, cross-training, curriculum training, technical assistance training, or other training as appropriate.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A Master's Degree in a social service-related field and licensure by the Board of Behavioral Sciences, or registration with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS, or
- A Bachelor's Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and six (6) months of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor, or
- An Associate's Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and one (1) year of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor, or
- AOD certified and more than two (2) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
Preferred Qualifications
- An understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse and an appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of drug abuse.
- Excellent interpersonal, written communications, and typing skills.
- Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS (preferred).
- Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participant.
- Protect and maintain program participants' health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
