Job Title: Director of Residential Life

Fort Valley State University (FVSU) invites applications for the position of Director of Residential Life. As a key member of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, the successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of all residence halls, guiding the development and supervision of departmental programming objectives, and shaping the environment and experiences of students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Resident Directors, Resident Assistants, and other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of residence halls.
  • Develop and implement programs and strategies to enhance student achievement, success, and engagement goals.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings, one-on-one meetings with staff members, and provide feedback on job performance.
  • Ensure staff members are trained and equipped to handle student behavioral issues and concerns.
  • Oversee the implementation of programs and strategies to promote student development and well-being.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, college student personnel, counseling, or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Post-baccalaureate experience in residence life, counseling, teaching, and living/learning environments is desired.
  • Strong administrative and counseling skills are required.
Working Conditions:

The incumbent will be required to live on campus for 12 months per year and participate in the professional staff and Resident Director on-call rotation.

Regularly required to sit and/or stand, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear; lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Occasionally lift 20 pounds overhead and 40 pounds from waist to shoulder.

Specific vision abilities required include close, distant color visions, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
