We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Lead Educator to join our team at Uncommon Schools. This role is perfect for individuals who are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of urban students.
Company Overview:
Uncommon Schools is a network of public charter schools that provide an outstanding education to students in historically under-resourced communities. Our mission is to close the achievement gap and prepare students for success in college and beyond.
Salary and Benefits:

About the Role:
As a Lead Educator, you will be responsible for cultivating a love for learning in every student from the very start. You will engage with students in a culturally-responsive, fast-paced, and fun learning environment. Our teachers and students build strong relationships based on respect and hard work, while celebrating each student's uniqueness and laying the academic foundations for future success.
Responsibilities:
- Co-teach and build an engaging classroom environment that encourages mastery and empowers students to engage in academic discourse.
- Teach basic principles of mathematics, reading, and writing to build students' literacy skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
- Implement ELA curriculum that prioritizes meaningful texts and topics relevant to students' lives.
- Develop and teach Science and Social Studies curricula that incorporate analyses of America's diverse histories and emphasize cultural and civic awareness.
- Meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work samples and assessments.
Qualifications:
- A commitment to Uncommon Schools' mission and values.
- Demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred).
- Academic expertise in Elementary Education, Humanities, English, Social Sciences, or other related fields of study.
- Prior to employment, a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Certification is not necessary, but candidates must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements.
About Uncommon Schools:
We believe in building a community where everyone feels welcome and valued. We strive to create a workplace culture that reflects our core values of equity, transparency, and clarity. Our staff receive best-in-class training, coaching, and support to develop and operate mission-driven schools that provide high-quality education to our students and families.
