About the Opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a skilled Cultural Resources Technician to join our team in Arizona. As a key member of our cultural resources management team, you will assist with conducting archaeological fieldwork, including pedestrian survey, site identification, and data collection.

This is a full-time, temporary, hourly position that is expected to last until August 31st, 2024. Extension of this timeline is dependent on fieldwork needs of any additional projects that arise.

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field. Prior experience in CRM is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with conducting archaeological fieldwork, including pedestrian survey, site identification, and data collection.
  • Conduct fieldwork for long hours in various environments, including extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and rugged terrain.
  • Accurately identify historic and prehistoric artifacts and features.
  • Assist with cultural resource records searches, laboratory analysis tasks, and other office work, as needed.
  • Work independently in a responsible manner.
  • Work as a productive member of a team and follow the direction of the field supervisor.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in CRM can substitute.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle background screening, and have access to reliable transportation.
  • Able to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Available for fieldwork on local projects and for fieldwork requiring extended travel (staying in a hotel or camping for up to 8 days at a time).
  • Must be able to pass client-specific drug and alcohol screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed an archaeology Field School focusing on North American archaeological methods and cultural resources management.
  • Previous experience conducting archaeological fieldwork for CRM firms in the southwest.
  • Experience collecting field data utilizing modern mobile technology (tablet, Bluetooth GPS receiver, mobile software).
  • Ability to read and interpret topographical maps and navigate using a compass.
  • CPR and First Aid certified.
