Job Summary

Parkland Health and Hospital System is seeking a highly skilled Orthotist/Prosthetist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for designing, fabricating, and fitting devices such as braces and artificial limbs to provide care to patients with disabling conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to identify patient needs and review prescriptions to ensure optimal functional use of orthotic appliances.
  • Measure, fabricate, and adjust casts and custom orthotics while ensuring minimal patient discomfort, optimal function, fit, comfort, alignment, and appearance.
  • Provide education and training to healthcare team members regarding orthotics and document medical records in a timely manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Orthotics area and develop effective internal controls to promote adherence.
  • Identify ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction, making recommendations to supervisor and implementing changes as appropriate.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of Orthotics by attending seminars, reading professional journals, and participating in professional organizations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in orthotics and prosthetics from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited program or a bachelor's degree in any major along with a post-graduate orthotics and prosthetics certificate from a CAAHEP accredited program.
  • Current license with the Texas Board of Orthotics and Prosthetics and certification from The American Board of Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics or the Board of Certification as a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (CPO).
  • Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card prior to hire and/or placement in job from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross Rescuer, or Military Training Network.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification with The American Board of Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics.
