Job Overview

The primary responsibility of the Extrusion Line Operator is to engage in a variety of physical tasks related to the operation of the extrusion line and associated equipment. This role involves transforming raw stock shapes through the extrusion process, enhancing product quality via annealing, and ensuring precision by removing excess material to meet specified tolerances. The operator will also manage the loading and unloading of nitrogen and air annealing ovens, as well as operate centerless grinders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and troubleshoot all grinding machines.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Hand feed the grinder using an in-feed support table.
  • Dress grinding and regulating wheels utilizing diamond heads.
  • Measure pre- and post-process rods with a three-point micrometer, achieving accuracy down to 0.0005 inches.
  • Adjust work-rest blades to ensure proper grinding alignment.
  • Program and calibrate the lay-line printing device.
  • Load and unload rods, tubes, and plates in both air and nitrogen ovens.
  • Select appropriate annealing rigs and oven cycles based on material specifications.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in safety huddles and departmental meetings.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of necessary process and quality documentation.
  • Experience with production reporting through a barcode system; ability to access and utilize SOPs, JSAs, Exhibits, and Control Plans via the company intranet.
  • Proficient in the use of various hand and power tools, as well as measuring instruments.
  • Certification for operating both stand-up and walk-behind forklifts is required.
