We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Shared Research Facilities and Operations at San Diego State University. This is a key leadership position that will play a critical role in advancing the research mission of the university.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic oversight and coordination for shared core facility operations, ensuring alignment with the university's research goals and objectives.
- Work closely with shared facility stakeholders, including core facility leadership, faculty, students, and technicians, to develop and implement effective strategies for supporting and advancing research initiatives.
- Collaborate with college deans and other leadership within the Division of Research and Innovation to ensure seamless integration of shared research facilities with other university programs and initiatives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including federal funding agencies, to secure funding for research initiatives and advance the university's research agenda.
- Supervise and mentor staff, providing guidance and support to ensure the effective operation of shared research facilities.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in shared research facility management, ensuring that the university's facilities are equipped to meet the evolving needs of researchers.
- Bachelor's degree in science or engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a research laboratory environment in academia or industry.
- Proven track record of leadership and management experience, with a strong ability to prioritize competing priorities and tasks.
- Experience setting up shared services recharge or cost centers, as well as knowledge of federal core facility cost studies and accounting practices.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to serving individuals from minoritized backgrounds, with a strong ability to reflect on and challenge practices that create inequities for faculty, staff, and students.
- Postgraduate degree (e.g., Masters) in science or engineering OR an MBA with a scientific or technical background is preferred.
