Shipboard Trades Assistant

We are seeking a skilled Trades Assistant to join our team at Huntington Ingalls Industries. As a Trades Assistant, you will assist workers in the skilled maintenance trades, performing specific or general duties of lesser skill, such as supplying or holding materials and tools, cleaning working areas, machines, and equipment, and performing other unskilled tasks as directed.

- May make local pick up and deliveries of supplies and company equipment and material, paint, lag, surface preparation, and minor facilities maintenance
- Check and return tools from the tool room
- Assist in receipt and inventory of material, tools, and equipment
- Must have an Active Secret Clearance and be able to obtain and maintain a DBIDS/CAC badge for base access/credentials
- Must have a High school Diploma or Trades school equivalent (GED) and 0 years' experience
- Must have experience working in a team environment
- Must be able to travel
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Knowledge and/or experience in a trade's specialty in the following areas: mechanical, electrical, electronic, welding, HVAC, and fitting
- Candidates with prior marine and/or industrial experience highly desired
- Candidates who are currently enrolled or a graduate from and/or completed vocational school or skilled trade certificate programs are preferred
- Prior fire-watch training and/or experienced desired
- Candidates with experience reading and using precision measuring tools (i.e. micrometers, slide calipers, indicators, voltage meters, and gages) are preferred
- OSHA 10 maritime Certification is a plus
- Candidates possessing a current U.S. Travel passport are preferred
- Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
- Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces.
- Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
- May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator.
