Research Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our team at the University of Georgia's Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS). As a Research Engineer, you will play a key role in providing engineering design support for external practitioner partnerships focused on natural infrastructure and nature-based solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research, development, and outreach focused on natural infrastructure systems, including technology transfer of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling innovations.
- Participate in innovative natural infrastructure engineering design teams for external practitioner partnerships focused on natural infrastructure and nature-based solutions.
- Co-author journal manuscripts, research reports, factsheets, and other written and produced products.
- Communicate regularly and in a timely fashion with project PIs and technical leads regarding research and other issues relevant to the operation of the laboratory.
- Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
- Preference given to candidates with 1-4 years of experience and/or an advanced degree in engineering, water resources, or related area.
- Preference given to candidates with an Engineer-in-Training certification and the ability to pursue Professional Engineer licensure.
- Preference given to candidates who have experience with stream major drainageway and stormwater facility engineering design as well as CAD/Civil3D, GIS, hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS, preferably 1D and 2D), hydrologic modeling (HEC-HMS, EPA SWMM).
- Preference given to candidates with knowledge and experience working in collaborative and interdisciplinary environments.
