Histotechnician

We are seeking a skilled Histotechnician to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a Histotechnician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of histology samples.

• Accurately accession, label, and prepare specimens for testing.
• Cut high-quality tissue sections with precise thickness and place them on glass slides.
• Embed tissue into paraffin blocks and maintain a filing system for blocks, slides, and wet tissue.
• Process tissue using processors to ensure full preservation and infiltration by paraffin.
• Perform routine and special stains, immunohistochemistry, cover slipping, verification, and distribution of slides.
• Manage daily workflow for recuts, special stains, immunohistochemistry, control slides, and send-outs according to established protocols.
• Evaluate quality control results and take corrective action under the guidance of key operators, technical specialists, or supervisor.
• Perform and document cleaning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of instruments and equipment.
• Assist pathologists during frozen section procedures.

• Advanced training beyond high school in a science-related field.
• No experience required.
• Knowledge of human anatomy.
• Detail-oriented with good organizational and communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills.
