Maintenance Mechanic

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at American Water Company. As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing operational, maintenance, and laboratory testing procedures to ensure the successful processing of raw water to drinking water for human consumption.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily operational activities, including receipt of chemical deliveries, record keeping, operation of low lift and high service pumps, chemical adjustments for process control, filter operation, disinfection processes, sludge handling, safety inspections, and laboratory sampling and testing.
- Perform daily maintenance activities, including completion of work orders, chemical feed pump repairs and calibration, general maintenance of high service and low service pumps and motors, repair and maintenance of electric motor driven gear boxes and bearings, inspection and repair of sludge handling equipment, repair of valves and valve operators, basin cleaning and repairs, and general plumbing and pipe fitting.
- Must enter and work in confined spaces when required.
- Must maintain the cleanliness and safe working conditions of facilities.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language.
- Able to perform basic mathematical, algebraic, and statistical calculations.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a computer.
- Demonstrated ability to make operational decisions/adjustments based upon information gathered via the distributed control system (SCADA), observation, and laboratory testing.
- Demonstrated ability to perform all mechanical/maintenance functions required of the position.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and safety practices applicable to the position's responsibilities, as well as federal and state regulations associated with the job functions of this position.
- Customer service focused.
- Must pass an OSHA surveillance physical and be cleared to wear a respirator annually.
- Must possess or obtain 40 hour HAZWOPER certification and complete annual 8 hour HAZWOPER refresher.
- Must demonstrate mechanical and operational proficiency associated with the day-to-day operations of the Canal Road and Raritan-Millstone facilities.
Work Environment:
This position regularly works one of 3 shifts (Monday-Friday, Sunday-Thursday, or Tuesday-Saturday). However, when required to do so by company management, this position can have workdays of the week altered to fill open operating shifts or maintenance duties on any of the 3 shifts (days/afternoons/overnights), which include working holidays and weekends.
