Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented School Paraprofessional Substitute to join our team at the Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities. As a key member of our educational staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the implementation of educational programs for students with developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of educational programs for students with developmental disabilities, working closely with certified instructors and specialists to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Prepare materials and resources as directed by teachers, and assist students with mobility, physical, and self-care needs, including ambulation, feeding, and toileting.
  • Follow Positive Support First Guidelines and maintain adequate supervision in all areas of the facility/community, adhering to approved classroom rules and implementing approved behavior programs for individual students as directed.
  • Fulfill all other obligations and duties as required for services, including maintenance of routines, documentation processes, and cooperative relationships with instructors, paraprofessionals, specialists, and administration.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Educational Aide Permit or teaching license preferred.
  • Two years of paid experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to move individuals who are receiving services safely, lift, carry, and move office supplies, materials, and equipment required for day-to-day operations.
Working Conditions
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Successful completion of general orientation.
  • Receipt of acceptable criminal background report from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCII) and county sheriff's office of permanent address before starting position.
  • Receipt of seven acceptable background checks required by ORC 3319.39 & OAC 5123:2-2-02.
  • Must obtain and maintain any training, licenses, registrations, or certifications mandated by the Board and the State of Ohio.
  • Must have a medical examination and a one-step PPD test to determine fitness for duty prior to providing direct care service or within 30 days of employment.
