PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency, this role is responsible for performing a variety of essential tasks related to the cleaning and upkeep of facilities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Perform custodial tasks and maintenance in areas such as classrooms, offices, and common areas. Duties include:
- Dusting, mopping, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors using appropriate equipment.
- Washing, dusting, and polishing glass surfaces, woodwork, walls, and furniture.
- Collecting and disposing of trash and reporting maintenance needs.
- Conducting minor repairs and inspections of facilities.
- Moving furniture and setting up spaces as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Some interpersonal skills; ability to follow instructions; ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment; basic record-keeping skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any experience and training that would provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in custodial operations within an educational environment; familiarity with custodial cleaning equipment; ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents may be required to possess and retain appropriate licenses or certifications as determined by the appointing authority.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents must have adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the position. A physical examination may be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may encounter risks associated with equipment and maintenance tasks.
