Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and training on relevant policies and procedures; manage workload distribution; oversee vacation and sick leave requests; set goals, monitor progress, mentor staff, and conduct annual performance evaluations.
  • Proposal Management: Identify funding opportunities; offer support in proposal and award development; review submissions for compliance and accuracy; facilitate the transition to contracting and post-award administration.
  • Non-Financial Post-Award Oversight: Manage activities related to non-financial award actions, including award setup, contract negotiations, budget modifications, progress reporting, and closeout procedures.
  • Communication and Networking: Represent the department at various meetings; cultivate relationships with funding agencies; assist in preparing reports and communications regarding research initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Contribute to the enhancement of internal processes; educate the research community on applicable regulations; support the planning and implementation of new initiatives; provide policy recommendations to leadership.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree is required, with a Master's degree preferred. Candidates should possess a minimum of five years of progressive experience in research administration, including project budgeting and cost accounting. A minimum of three years in a supervisory role is also required, with preference given to those with experience managing large, complex grant-funded projects in a university environment.

Skills and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will be collaborative, adaptable, and open to feedback. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for building effective relationships across various constituencies, including faculty, staff, and students. Excellent written communication skills and a customer service-oriented mindset are crucial.

Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage competing priorities effectively. A thorough understanding of federal and non-federal regulations governing sponsored research is necessary, along with familiarity with 2 CFR Part 200 Uniform Guidance. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with research administration systems are preferred.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
